Navigating turbulent times together

Executive Director Justin Locke reflects on a new era of Global Energy Monitor.

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the entire team at Global Energy Monitor (GEM), I am pleased to share some significant news regarding our organization’s evolution. Today, we are launching a refreshed brand identity and website at globalenergymonitor.org to showcase how we’ve primed our best-in-class, open data to be even more accessible and decision making-ready.

It is without hyperbole to say that the global energy landscape is in a moment of profound disruption. With the accelerating impacts of the climate crisis to the rapid shifts in energy security and market volatility, the need for clarity — independent of government and corporate interest — has never been more urgent. Current events in the Strait of Hormuz have been dubbed by the International Energy Agency the “largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market.” At GEM, we recognize that to meet this moment, our digital presence and brand must be as dynamic as the data we provide.

Our growing commitment

This rebranding is more than just a visual update; it represents our deepened commitment to providing best-in-class open data in a clear and digestible format. As the world navigates these complex energy transitions, our mission remains centered on transparency and accessibility. The new site is designed to:

  • Streamline data access: Enhanced navigation allows audiences to find critical information on fossil fuel, heavy industry, and renewable energy projects more efficiently.
  • Enhance data visualization: Improved interactive tools make our data accessible and digestible to the widest range of users in order to provide clearer insights into the global energy buildout.
  • Reflect our global scale: Our new visual identity mirrors the professional, rigorous, and comprehensive nature of our worldwide tracking efforts.

Navigating turbulent times together

Energy markets are changing at a dizzying pace. By modernizing our platform, we are ensuring that GEM strives to be the most reliable truth source for those working to understand and influence the global energy transition. We want our users to spend less time searching for data and more time using it to drive meaningful change.

We are incredibly grateful for your continued partnership and support. It is your belief in the power of open information that has allowed us to grow from a small project into a global authority.

I invite you to explore the new site and see firsthand how we are safeguarding the facts and positioning GEM to provide the data necessary for meeting the challenges ahead. Thank you for being a vital part of our journey.

With gratitude,
