Position
Global Energy Monitor seeks a part-time researcher to update existing wiki pages and create new wiki pages on our GEM.wiki platform on fossil and renewable energy projects worldwide. This work is done mainly via web searches and can be performed remotely.
Background
Global Energy Monitor (GEM) develops information resources for the movement to address global warming and support the transition from fossil to clean energy. GEM maintains wiki pages on thousands of coal plants, coal mines, wind farms, oil/gas pipelines, and other major fossil and renewable projects around the world. The pages are used as the building block for the Global Coal Plant Tracker, the Global Fossil Infrastructure Tracker, and numerous other trackers and projects.
Impact
GEM data is used by scores of environmental groups worldwide, by academic researchers and institutions, by international agencies including the World Bank and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and by media outlets including the Associated Press, BBC News, Reuters, Vox, and the Wall Street Journal.
Qualifications
This is output-oriented work that requires self-motivation, efficiency, scrupulous attention to accuracy, resourcefulness in applying search tools, competence with spreadsheets, and professional-level writing skills.

Language Skills
The job requires professional-level English writing skills. Bilingual skills in English and Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish are helpful but not required.
Location
This is a remote, work-from-home position. GEM’s team has a global footprint, and this role can be based in any country.
Compensation
$33 to $37 per hour, depending on relevant prior experience.
Time
24 – 32 hours per week, with a flexible schedule to be determined between the Researcher and their supervisor. This is a temporary position (up to 6 months), with the possibility of extension to a permanent role depending on the organization’s needs.
